(Jerry) York. York, the chairman, president and CEO of Harwinton Capital, joined Apple’s Board of Directors in 1997. He was the former CFO of IBM and Chrysler, and former vice chairman of Tracinda. He is widely acknowledged for his contributions at Chrysler and IBM during their turnarounds.

“Jerry joined Apple’s Board in 1997 when most doubted the company’s future. He has been a pillar of financial and business expertise and insight on our Board for over a dozen years,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “It’s been a privilege to know and work with Jerry, and I’m going to miss him a lot.”

The so-called Public Debt is incurred because the European states surrendered the sovereign right to issue their own money to private corporations that lend it at interest. So instead of paying for the paper and ink costs of banknotes we have to raise taxes to fulfill the megalomaniac and sociopathic ego of private bankers. Restore monetary sovereignty and give back the monetary rent (at least the 7% of the GDP) to the nations! The singer, songwriter and dancer whose career reached unprecedented peaks of sales and attention, died Thursday at 1:07 p.m. Pacific time, a Los Angeles city official said. He was 50.
Mr. Jackson, in a coma, was rushed to U.C.L.A. Medical Center, a six-minute drive from the rented mansion in which he was living, shortly after noon by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics. A hospital spokesman would not confirm reports of cardiac arrest.
As with Elvis Presley or The Beatles, it is impossible to calculate the full impact he had on the world of music. At his height, he was indisputably the biggest star in the world and has sold more than 750 million albums. Radio stations across the

And if he felt it necessary, did he need to canvass publicly the republican issue on his way to Windsor Castle? And having done so, did he need to make a petty point by refraining from the customary formal bow? How fearless of him. Perhaps that was why during his round the world odyssey he didn't drop in on Japan, where they bow all the time.
NAIROBI, Kenya — Melitus Mugabe Were, a freshman member of Parliament, could have been one of the keys to unlocking Kenya's crisis, but he never got the chance.

He was a moderate opposition politician, a self-made businessman who grew up in a slum, and he bridged the ethnic divide. His wife is from another ethnic group, and as Kenya slid into chaos this past month after a disputed election, he shuttled between different communities and tried to organize a peace march.

On Tuesday morning, as he pulled up to the gate of his home, Mr. Were was dragged out of his car and shot to death.

"Whoever did this," said Elizabeth Mwangi, a friend, "has killed the dreams of many."

The details are still sketchy, but the shooting appears to have been a planned murder, not a robbery. Word spread

(Ed Cropley) - Pyin U Lwin, Myanmar - With a twinkle in his eye and the cheeky grin of a man half his age, 84-year-old Taw Paya does what few in Myanmar are prepared to do: speak out openly against the ruling military junta. But this is no gung-ho dissident, courting the wrath of one of the world's most repressive governments. Taw Paya is the sole surviving grandson of the former Burma's last monarch, King Thibaw, exiled to India by the British in 1885. The blue blood flowing in his veins does not make him immune to recrimination, but it certainly helps. "People are still respectful of the royal blood," he told Reuters in the sitting room of his red-brick colonial-style villa, built in 1947, the year before the southeast Asian nation claimed its independence from Britain. So let's put it out there: If you don't want to live in a constitutional monarchy governed by the British Crown, why the heck would you come to Canada? Mr. Roach is a lawyer originally from Trinidad who believes that the language of Canada's citizenship oath -- which requires new Canadians "to be faithful and bear true allegiance to Her Majesty the Queen" -- is offensive.

In particular, he says it is offensive to black individuals from countries that, in the words of a republican press release about his Charter challenge, "were oppressed or forcibly

How is the EU's common agricultural policy (CAP) dealing with new environmental challenges such as climate change, water management and the protection of biodiversity? Is it equipped to seize the opportunities offered by biofuels? And how has it been affected by the EU's expansion to 27 countries?

To find out how the CAP can be further adjusted to make life easier for farmers while protecting consumers' and taxpayers' interests, the EU commission is going to conduct a 'health check'.

This review will examine three main aspects:
